Science

At St Mary’s Primary School, we support students to develop the knowledge and skills they need to understand and engage with the world around them. Scientific literacy is an important part of learning for all students, helping them to think critically, ask questions and make informed decisions about everyday issues such as health and the environment.

Our Science program provides a strong foundation across the biological, chemical, physical, Earth and space sciences. Students also learn about Science as a way of understanding the world, exploring how ideas are tested, how evidence is gathered, and how knowledge grows over time.

We engage students in learning through hands-on experiences, observation and meaningful discussions. Students are encouraged to be curious, ask questions, investigate ideas and share their thinking. Rich non-fiction texts and carefully sequenced topics support students to build their understanding in a clear and connected way, helping them to grow in confidence as young scientists.
