At St Mary’s Primary School, English is taught in a rich and engaging environment where language, ideas and stories come to life. We support students to develop confidence in speaking, listening, reading, writing and thinking, building strong foundations for lifelong learning.
In the early years, we place a strong emphasis on explicit and supportive teaching of core literacy skills. These include reading, spelling, handwriting, sentence writing and developing confident communication. As students grow, they continue to build on these skills in deeper and more meaningful ways, exploring a wide range of texts and expressing their ideas with increasing confidence and creativity.
