Kitchen Garden

Our students engage in cultivating and harvesting produce through a Stephanie Alexander-inspired kitchen garden. The ultimate aim is to empower our students to care for the land and gain valuable experience in gardening, allowing them to grow as stewards of our environment while developing practical life skills.

Student Responsibilities may include (but not limited to)

Seasonal Cultivation: Preparing soil, planting seedlings, and understanding the life cycle of seasonal Victorian produce.

Garden Maintenance: Managing regular watering, weeding, and organic pest control to ensure a healthy crop.

Sustainable Stewardship: Operating worm farms and composting systems to turn “waste” into nutrient-rich soil.

Harvesting & Preparation: Identifying when produce is ready for picking and safely using kitchen tools to prepare shared meals.

Inquiry Observation: Documenting plant growth and soil health to answer term-specific “Big Questions.”
