Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is a whole-school framework that supports the implementation of consistent practices to enhance both educational and behavioural outcomes for all students, staff and families.

The PBL approach is grounded in a proactive and positive focus on whole-school wellbeing, with additional targeted support for students with higher levels of need.

At St Mary’s School, our community is guided by three core values: being Respectful, Responsible and Resilience. These values underpin a set of clearly defined expected behaviours that are explicitly taught across all year levels through classroom practices and routines.

Teaching and reinforcing positive social behaviours is a vital part of every child’s education. PBL is based on the understanding that appropriate behaviour must be taught, not assumed. Students learn through explicit instruction, modelling, practice and positive reinforcement, enabling them to develop the skills needed to succeed both at school and beyond.
